14 news and public information reports which feature research and people at the University of Florida.  No date is given.  However, the retrospective exhibit of the paintings of Hiram Williams took place from February 13 to March 13, 1983 and presumably the rest of the reports were presented in this same year.

After a two-year study funded by the Department of Energy, Dr. Emmet Bolch suggests that power plants could release a little more radioactivity.  The cost of treating waste by the power plants has increased their costs and the standards under which they are operating are dated.

A report on the research of Dr. Pennypacker.  A silicon model of the female breast was developed and using this replica, women are trained to find breast tumors.  They have discovered that ninety percent of cancers can be detected by women themselves.

The Genesys program involves the taping of lectures in engineering classes at the University of Florida.  These programs are then disseminated to engineering firms and government agencies in Florida.  Eventually classes all over the state might be linked electronically.

A retrospective exhibit of the paintings of Hiram Williams in the University Gallery takes place Feb. 13 to March 13.  Hiram Williams is art professor emeritus.  The focus of the exhibit is “existential man”.

Thirty scientists from seventeen countries are attending a training and alternative energy seminar at the University of Florida.  They have come because of the high cost of energy in their third world countries.  Dr. Erich Farber and Congressman Don Fuqua are briefly interviewed.

Materials science engineers Larry Hench and David Clark study the problem in storing nuclear waste.  They are working with developing a type of glass, which appears to resist corrosion.

Chemistry professor Michael C. Zerner is doing molecular research on dyes through the use of computers.  Mention is made of the Quantum Conference sponsored by both Uppsala University and the University of Florida.

Dr. Larry Severy of the University of Florida psychology department is working on a four-year study funded by a grant from the National Institute of Health.  Four hundred couples in different age groups are included in the study and questions are asked regarding what type of birth control they use.

Through research funded by a grant of $200,000 from the Navy, Dr. Abbaschian and graduate student Joe Patchett are studying the levitation of metal.  Metal is levitated with high frequency electricity, which creates a harder and more resistant metal with less corrosion.

Praise is extended to the student chapter of the Metallurgical Society.  They have  been cited for thirteen years by the American Institute of Mining Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers as the outstanding student chapter in the country.  The trophy case is shown overflowing with the trophies which have been awarded to the chapter.
