Web Policy & Responsibilities
- Policy
The George A. Smathers Libraries' web site is intended to provide coordinated Internet access to library services and resources. This is accomplished with broad category links from the home page, enabling users to quickly navigate through the site. The Libraries' web site serves as a gateway to library services and staff for users on campus and beyond. The first-level page sets the design and navigational elements used throughout the Library Web pages. Pages throughout the Libraries' web site will maintain design theme and navigational elements as detailed in the Library Web Standards, Guidelines and Procedures.

Volunteers may include any member of the Libraries staff with demonstrated web experience and expertise.
- Web Contacts, Coordinators, and Content Providers
The usefulness of the Libraries' Web Site and the content within depends on the efforts and creativity of individuals throughout the organization. All units and many individuals within the Libraries are expected to participate in this effort
- Administrative Web Contacts
Administrative Web Contacts are responsible for the content of all pages within their folders and subfolders. They oversee compliance with UF and Library standards, and may also set and enforce additional standards within their units. Reports of problems with any page within their jurisdiction are to be sent to them.
Administrative Web Contacts are members of the Library Council (Current Administrative Web Contacts).
- Web Coordinators
Each department and additional functional areas, selected by the Assistant Director of Technical Services, has one Web Coordinator who is responsible for making web pages within their jurisdictional function properly. They have authority to create and maintain pages, and have permissions to write files and create subfolders. While more than one person may have permissions within a given area, one person is designated a department or area's Web Coordinator. The Web Coordinator serves as the local point of contact for content providers when seeking technical help or advice concerning the department's or area's web pages. Web Coordinators must be full time permanent library staff members.
The Administrative Web Contact in each area appoints Functional Web Coodinators. If no Web Coordinator is appointed, the Administrative Contact is the Web Coordinator by default (Current Web Coordinators ).
- Content Providers
Each department may have several web content providers. Web content providers are appointed by the Department Chair. They have authority to create and maintain pages under the direction of the Web Contact and Web Coordinator.
