PROOFS OF WOOD ENGRAVINGS

The Rare Book collection has ten proofs from the story of Cupid and Psyche in William Morris's unpublished Earthly Paradise on five sheets of paper. The paper is the earliest made by John Batchelor in 1891-1892 for Morris in its two sizes: 28 x 41 cm and 41 x 56 cm. The first has the primrose watermark in opposite corners of the sheet and the second has the primrose watermark in all four corners of the sheet. Sheet 2 is the paper of the first type and the remainder are on half sheets of the second.
