Autograph poem: "To a Mountain Brook," in autograph letter to Messrs. J.T. & E. Buckingham, from Bowdoin college, July 18, 1831.
Pp. 4: p. 1 the letter; pp. 2-4 the poem, address, and postmark. Writing to the editors of the New England Magazine, Longfellow asks that his poem appear in the next number, and it duly appeared in the August 1831 issue (HWL 34). This letter proves the authorship hypothesized by Thompson in Young Longfellow.
