Biographical/Historical Note

The Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce was founded as a Board of Trade in the city of Winter Haven, Florida, in 1910 and was later incorporated in 1923.

Scope and Content

The Records of the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce primarily consist of correspondence, promotional materials, photographs, and news and other press clippings. The collection, which spans 1927 to 1949, covers the day-to-day functions of a Florida chamber of commerce during the Great Depression, World War II and the post war period. These daily operations are broadly divided into business and government. In terms of business, items of special interest include the Chamber's attempts to bring a movie industry and citrus production to Winter Haven. Researchers also might be interested in files on the housing crisis during World War II and plans for various military facilities. This collection is arranged alphabetically by subject.
