According to the 1870 census, Chandler H. Smith was born in 1831. He lived in Madison, Florida and operated a dry goods store. At that time he had a wife and three children. It appears that the business changed hands somewhere in this time span, as the last entry is to A. Smith rather than Chandler Smith.
