Images of Daytona Beach, Circa 1930
These photos come from the collection of Charles E. Grenell of Daytona Beach, Florida. Grenell ran a photo print shop and photography supply
store located at 5 North Atlantic Ave. Besides shots of Daytona and its surroundings, the collection
also contains photographs of Charles, his wife Susie A. Grenell, their daughter Ruth, as well
as Grenell's father and other family members. Composition, especially of family photos, is often charming, showing
a good eye for subject. Places have been identified when possible from captions or by comparison with other
photographs.
Grenell was a native of Honeoye, N.Y., a veteran of World War I, and a forty-four
year resident of Daytona. In addition to his camera shop in Florida, he owned another in Waynesville, N.C.
He died in 1962 in Boston, Mass., at the age of 74. Biographical information couresy of the Halifax Historical Society and
Museum, Daytona Beach.
