Series 10: Personal and Business Correspondence of Sydney Octavius Chase, Jr. 1926-1979
3 linear feet (7 boxes)

This series contains the files of Sydney Octavius Chase, Jr. pertaining to both his personal and professional life. The original order and content of the files was maintained. The series also contains business records that would be more properly located in Series 3. The earlier files contain multiple years of correspondence and there is considerable chronological overlap. Later files are organized by year. Earlier files tend to be divided into personal and business correspondence with later files combining the two.

Most of the letters in this series are from friends and family and are unrelated to the Chase business interests. Some of the business correspondence may be copies of letters found in the business records of Record Group I. The series documents Chase's charitable and philanthropic activity as well as his views on political and social issues. However, the bulk of the series relates to family matters. Of note are the correspondence regarding the cross-Florida canal and St. Johns-Indian River Canal in box 199, the letters related to strife with Uncle Josh in box 201, and Frank Chase's wartime letters from North Africa and Italy in box 201.
