Czarnikow-Rionda Company. Invoice Dept.
NABUC purchases, 1936-1942;
1947-1952.
22 volumes.
Series 75 consists of
contract books containing a record of the sale of Cuban sugars by the Cuban
Trading Company and the Latin American Trading Company to the Czarnikow-Rionda
Company. (NABUC is Cuban spelled backwards and was a code word for the
Cuban Trading Company.) Each volume contains an index linking each
contract to a sugar mill or another purchasing agent and another index
linking each contract to either the United States or foreign quota.
There are actually two contracts for each transaction. The first
contract, between the mill and the Cuban Trading Company or the Latin American
Trading Company, gives the brand mark, price, number of bags and exit port
for the purchased sugar. The second contract, between one of the
two companies and Czarnikow-Rionda, contains essentially the same information.
Cable messages related to a contract are sometimes attached to the contracts.
F.O.B. contracts were
suspended during World War II.
