Manuel Rionda y Polledo.
Winters, 1901-1925.
1.9 linear ft. (5 boxes)
Series 12 consists of
correspondence between Rionda's nephews, Bernardo Braga Rionda and Manuel
(Manolo) E. Rionda, during the winter months when the elder Rionda traveled
to Cuba to supervise the harvest. While in Cuba, Rionda corresponded
regularly on matters related to business interests and the island's social
and political climate.
Only letters written
by the nephews to Rionda are included for the years up to the harvest of
1917. Letters for the harvests of 1903-1904, 1906-1909, 1912,
1914, 1916, 1918, and 1922 are not included in this series. (A complete
collection of Rionda's letters from Cuba for the years 1909-1926 can be
found in Series 3.)
Much of the correspondence
from Rionda in this series duplicates letters found in Series 3, Traveling
Letterbooks. However, Series 12 often includes attachments to letters
that are not found in the letterbooks. Series
5, Internal Memoranda, also complements the records in this series
for the years 1904-1914.
Two file folders were
added to the collection on November 19, 1993 from materials donated to
the Libraries after the original gift. These folders are clearly
marked.
