Archives & Manuscripts in the Baldwin Library: Louise Seaman Bechtel
Louise Seaman Bechtel was hired by Macmillan Company in the early
1920's to become the first editor of a separate department devoted to the
publication of children's books. Because of her success other publisher's
soon followed suit and children's book publishing became a visible
and profitable industry.
