Ernestine Weaver, the gymnastics coach, has built a successful program.  The combination of her energy and devotion to the sport and the great facility (the O’Connell Center) have contributed to the success and to the large crowds which attend the gymnastics meets.  The team members practice 15 hours each week.  Practice scenes and a gymnastics class are shown.

The SNAP (Student Night time Auxiliary Patrol) is explained.  Students who are members of this organization patrol seven nights a week but they also escort women students back to their residences at night.

Coastal engineering research scientist Dr. D.L. (Lee) Harris has been observing hurricanes for three decades for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Army Corps of Engineers.  He says that much has been discovered but still more has to be learned.

The Stephen C. O’Connell Center has been recognized by Reagan for an energy efficient design.  The R.S. Incorporation won the energy conservation award’s program sponsored by Owens Corning Fiber Glass Corporation.  The Teflon coated glass fiber fabric is stretched over the arches of the dome and it cuts down on both lighting and cooling costs.  The dome was completed in 1980.  Various events are shown taking place in different areas of the dome.

Dr. Alex Green, a University of Florida nuclear engineering physicist, thinks that if oil burners were converted to gas/coal then it would save two and a half billion dollars in Florida and as much as 12.5 billion in the nation.  He and his son Bruce have invented a first stage combustion chamber to effect this conversion.

Dr. Bent A. Christensen of the University of Florida civil engineering department has developed a modified beam troll to catch shrimp.  It works more efficiently and catches more shrimp than the otter troll.

A report on the forty-five percent increase in black admissions to the University of Florida.  The students met and exceeded the higher admission standards.  John Boatwright, Jr., an admissions officer, talks about what was done to effect this increase.  The peer counselor program is also mentioned.
