This subseries
contains the administrative records of Stanley L. West, Director of Libraries
from 1947 to 1967. In addition to the files related to the Libraries'
management, there are files on West's participation in professional organizations
such as the American Library Association, the Association of College and
Research Libraries, the Association of Research Libraries, and the Southeastern
Library Association. There are files related to the expansion of
Library East (now Smathers Library) and the construction of Library West
and the Health Science Library. West's involvement on University
committees is well documented. Also of note are the files related
to Latin American acquisitions, the Farmington Plan, and the first eleven
Seminars on the Acquisition of Latin American Materials. The latter
includes two files on the first seminar held in 1956 at Chinsegut Hill
in Brooksville, Florida. One of the files was pulled from records
of the Catalog Department and added to this subseries.
