Administrative files of the chair of the Dept. of English during the tenures of Clifford P. Lyons, 1936-1945, and Charles
Archibald Robertson, 1945-1975. The files include correspondence with John Crowe Ransom, Ants Oras, Charles Leslie Wrenn,
and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. The correspondence with Rawlings relates to Lyons' efforts to have her teach a summer course
on Imaginative Writing. Also included in the Rawlings file are records related to her bequest to the University of Florida.
Also of interest are the files on the University Library Committee.
A box of materials that had been separated from this series was recovered in January 2000. Much of the materials relate to
the visits of American poet Robert Frost to the University of Florida from 1946 until 1960. During these years, Frost came
to the UF campus and read his poetry in the University Auditorium. On January 30, 1960 he received a degree of Doctor of Letters,
honoris causa at the mid year graduation exercises.

The materials include correspondence, newspaper clippings, magazine articles, telegrams, and other information concerning
arrangements for his visits to the UF campus and the positive effect of his lectures and poetry readings. In addition to the
Frost materials there are also two folders one with correspondence and other materials of poet Robert P. Tristram Coffin who
came to the University of Florida and led poetry workshops. The other folder contains correspondence (to Robertson) from Lesley
Frost, Robert Frost's oldest child, as well as otheritems.
