College of Business Administration. Office
of the Dean.
Administrative
policy records, 1926-1965 (bulk 1931-1965)
17.5 linear
ft. (42 boxes)
Subseries 48 contains
the records of deans Walter Jeffries Matherly and Donald John Hart.
Only budget records, records related to the Southern Economics Association,
and a few other items have survived for the first few years. From
1931 on, the records are more extensive. The files are arranged by
year and then arranged by subject.
A considerable
portion of the series is taken up with the College's participation in professional
organizations. Documentation on the Southern Economic Association,
the Southeastern Economic Council, the Florida State Chamber of Commerce,
the Bureau of Economic and Business Research, and the Southern Economic
Journal are noteworthy. The records reflect interest in the business
and social development of Florida and the South.
Journalism was
taught in the College for the first eight years and a small amount of records
related to the subject are included here. (See files related to Elmer
Emig.) Another file of special interest is the 1942 folder on the
effects of the repeal of the poll tax. Some of Dean Matherly's speeches
and writings are in the files, but a more extensive selection of his works
will be found in Manuscript Collection 23.
The subseries
covers the entire tenure of Dean Matherly, but records of the last four
years of Dean Hart's administration are missing.
