Biographical/Historical Note
In 1986, the University of Florida established the University Coordinating Committee on AIDS. For the next three years this committee sought to implement a comprehensive AIDS policy for UF, including recommendations for the installation of condom machines on campus. In 1989 the committee was renamed the UF Task Force on AIDS and HIV Infection. The Task Force revised the university policy and was successful in having condom machines installed. In 1991 the Provost created an Ad Hoc Committee on the University's Response to AIDS and HIV Infection, which conducted a survey and issued a report containing several recommendations. During the same year, the University of Florida AIDS Institute was established. In 1992 the Task Force was abolished and the Committee on Campus HIV Education and Policy was created.
