Biographical/Historical Note

The University of Florida Press was founded in 1944 to handle publications produced by Florida faculty. It quickly evolved into a broader academic press. The Board of Managers met for the first time on January 5, 1945. The University of Florida Press later became part of the University Presses of Florida and, along with the academic presses of the other state universities, was eventually subsumed by the University Press of Florida.

Scope and Content

Series 170 contains minutes of the Board of Managers for the years 1945-1969 along with production and financial reports and board minutes for the years 1981-1991. Also included for those years are minutes of advisory committees and the Committee on the Future. Records related to the selection and criticism of prospective manuscripts were discarded. Also contained in this series are early Press documents for the years 1944-1961, including the founding documents.
