Biographical/Historical Note
The University of Florida Status of Women Committee was originally appointed by President Stephen C. O'Connell on March 26, 1971. It was then called the Committee to Study Opportunities for Women at the University of Florida. The committee was set up to make recommendations to the Provost in relation to the equal treatment of women at the University and to act in an advisory capacity to the Provost. The committee elects its own chair and has five student members (sophomore or above).

Series 140 consists of records of the University of Florida Status of Women Committee, including correspondence, reports, memoranda, minutes, articles, and a history.
