    The second series of the William Graves Carleton Papers contains manuscripts for published and unpublished writings, lectures, and speeches.  Included is an incomplete manuscript for his last, unpublished, work entitled here as "On the Folklore of American History" and an unexpurgated manuscript of his memoir "Free Lancing Through the Century."   Carleton was best remembered for his stirring lectures in the University College's American Institutions (C-1).  A copy of his lectures in C-1 are included in this collection.  Also included are records related to the history section of the War Training Courses offered to officer candidates during World War II.
