H. Harold Hume collection of agricultural
documents, c.1930-1950.
4.2 linear ft. (10
boxes)
A cursory survey of the contents list of this series reveals the diversity of the materials in this group of documents. Here one finds official reports and correspondence copied to the office of the Dean of the College of Agriculture and later Provost for Agriculture reflecting matters of which Hume was made aware but not necessarily matters requiring his direct involvement nor reflective of his primary concerns. Found here, as well, however, are some of Hume's earlier special interests such as highway beautification, the creation of the Everglades National Park, and some writings on Irises. There is much from the early Experiment Stations, especially Lake Alfred (citrus) and Everglades (vegetables, sugar, forage crops), and later from the World War II period reflective of the various government efforts to regulate the production and distribution of essential goods during wartime. Odds and ends inform us of the activities of the Commonwealth Prickly Pear Board and the China Tung Oil Company.
