Rudolph Weaver was the Architect to the Florida Board of Control as well as the first director of the School of Architecture at the University of Florida. He taught at the University of Illinois and the University of Idaho prior to coming to Florida in 1925. He received his Diploma in Architecture from Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, Pa. and the Gold Prize in June 1905. In June 1919 he received a B.S. in Engineering from Drexel Institute. He studied at the Beaux-Arts Atelier Hambostle (1909) and Harvard University (1925).
Rudolph Weaver designed many buildings for a number of educational institutions, including the State College of Washington, the University of Idaho, the University of Florida, the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College (Florida A and M), and Florida State College for Women. He also designed the Florida State Road Department Building.
His papers include some correspondence. But most of the collection consists of technical drawings, blueprints, photographs, and sketches for buildings at the State College of Washington and the University of Idaho as well as private residences and other miscellaneous structures.
The collection also includes a series of drawings and sketches of a variety of lighting fixtures (a total of 79 pieces of paper with vending). Most of those have no identification, but some were intended for the Music Building and a dormitory at Florida State College for Women and the Infirmary and Auditorium of the University of Florida.
The collection is open for research.
Weaver's work with the Florida Board of Control is documented in Series 75 of the University Archives Public Records Collection.
