Biographical/Historical Note
James Marion Farr was appointed head of English instruction at the Florida Agricultural College at Lake City in 1901 and later served as head of the Department of English at the University of Florida. He became the University's first vice-president and served as acting president upon the death of President A. A. Murphree in December 1927. He resigned from the faculty in 1934 and was placed on Special Status. As part of his Special Status duties he was requested to write several pieces: "The Southern University Race Commission: A Personal Memoir by One of Its Members", "Intensive and Reflexive Pronouns in Chaucer", and "The Making of a University".
