Biographical/Historical Note
Richard L. Fearn was a professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering from 1965 until 2003. He began as an assistant professor in 1965, became an associate professor in 1975, a full professor in 1980, and a professor emeritus in 1996. Prior to coming to the University of Florida he was an instructor at Auburn University (1960), and an instructor at Memphis State University (summer of 1962).
Scope and Content
The Fearn Papers are comprised of material related to a chapter co-written with Wei Shyy for the book, Aerospace Engineering Education During the First Century of Flight. The papers include research notes in the form of photocopies from a number of sources, a draft of the final chapter, and thirty-seven photographs. The photographs are of research laboratories, demonstrations of equipment, the radar tower and hanger, and groups or single pictures of people. Photocopies of these photographs were made and placed with the collection. The originals were placed in the main photographic subject file collection of the University Archives (Only three of these photographs were used in the chapter).
