Biographical/Historical Note
Jack Bowen Humphries was a student at the University of Florida from 1945 to 1949. Prior to attending the University of Florida he had served in World War II in the United States Army Air Force. During his service he kept a diary which chronicles his experiences. While he was a student at the University of Florida he was a member of Florida Blue Key, the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Cavaliers, and the State Student Organization. He was also active in other organizations such as the Jacksonville Club and the Red Cross. In addition he was Senior Class President, he served on the editorial board of the Alligator, the Blue Key Speakers Bureau, and the Seminole Staff. In 1949 he was honored by being elected to the UF student Hall of Fame. He returned to UF as a graduate student and received his Master of Education Degree in 1954. After his graduation he taught at Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, Florida.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of certificates, two diplomas, some correspondence, pamphlets from Florida Blue Key, pamphlets and three copies of a newspaper publication (Phi O Gram) from Phi Delta Theta, photocopies of newspaper clippings, photographs, and student government election materials (Varsity Party). Also included are a diary from 1936 (which he kept when he was about ten years old), a diary he kept during his service in WW II, and some writings.
