Public Services Information Technology Coordinators Group (PSITC)

Purpose

To manage the library's public workstation environment in order to improve the ability of library users to access and utilize electronic information effectively and independently. Although the primary focus is on in-library service, the Group should also be cognizant of and concerned with issues relating to remote delivery of information resources in electronic form.

Composition

Information Technology Coordinators in the Documents Department, Humanities & Social Sciences Services Department, and the Marston Science Library along with the library's Electronic Access Services Coordinator.

Charge

  1. Meet as needed but at least monthly to share information and work toward the above purpose. Invite guests, as appropriate.
  2. Share and implement operational techniques to improve the delivery of electronic information in the libraries. Communicate with other staff, particularly those in Public Service units and the Systems Office, to facilitate this.
  3. Keep abreast of and share information concerning new technological developments, generally and at the University of Florida.
  4. Bring library user needs, problems, and technical concerns relating to electronic delivery of information resources to the attention of the Director of Public Services, the Public Services Steering Committee, and the Systems Office.
  5. Make recommendations for changes relating to hardware, software, networks and other supporting infrastructure, user interface/access, library procedures, and service policies that will alleviate problems or improve service.

Reporting

The Group reports to the Director for Public Services. A Chair is appointed annually.
