Endeca Implementation Task Force

Background

During the summer of 2007, the University of Florida’s libraries will implement a new catalog interface provided by the Florida Center for Library Automation using Endeca software. This will have a major impact on users’ ability to navigate the library catalog and locate information resources at UF and in the other libraries of Florida’s state universities.

Charge

This task force is being created to carry out activities that will lead to a successful implementation of Endeca. These include but are not limited to the following tasks:

• Function as a task-focused subcommittee of the Resource Navigation Committee
• Maintain communication with the state’s Public Services Planning Committee OPAC Subcommittee
• Participate in test activities
• Conduct UF and collaborative usability studies to assess the ease of use and functionality of Endeca for UF’s students, faculty and other primary users
• Establish mechanism for ongoing user evaluation
• Plan and conduct training for library staff
• Make recommendations concerning needed interface changes
• Make recommendations concerning publicity and methods for introducing Endeca to users

Duration of Tasks

Work of the task force will begin immediately and should be completed no later than the end of fall semester, 2007.
