Pappas, Reference Librarian, has joined the Library West Humanities and
Social Sciences Reference Department. She received her M.A. in English
in 1996 and her M.S. in Library Science in 1998, both from FSU. Besides
working in general Reference, she coordinates the Freshman English Library

a 1998 internship at Library West. Mimi enjoys teaching Freshman
English classes and others how to use the library.
She coordinates the Reference

Revised
Library
Handouts
Available
We have updated our general
library handouts during the summer, and ask you to be sure you are using
the latest versions dated 2000. If you would like copies to give to your
classes, just call Alice Primack at 392-2822 and let us know how many copies
you need and where to send them. Handouts cover the basics of using the
Libraries, WebLUIS, indexes and other databases, electronic journals, research
paper strategies, and tips for evaluating a web search.
A folder of library information,
including a copy of each handout, has been sent to your Department Office
for your quick reference use. Feel free to call an Information Desk for
more information, at 392-0361 (Humanities and Social Sciences) or 392-2836
(Sciences).

to
become the new Dean of Libraries at the University of Arkansas. Carolyn's
ten years here have spanned the gamut from two years of heavy cuts in the
early 90's to the steady growth of the past few years. There is no way
that we can replace Carolyn's inimitable style and humor, her grace under
fire, and her practical skills at wringing the most from our resources
so that the library could make some progress each year. But, we will
conduct a national search and do our best to replace her intelligence,
her savvy negotiating skills, and her extraordinary contributions to the
libraries. Colleagues had a chance to say good by to Carolyn at a reception
in the Reitz Union August 10th. Please send her off with our
warmest good wishes for a happy and rewarding new challenge.
