GENERIC/SUPPORT ACTIVIES


GOALS:
  1. Complete migration of FILMLOG from Q&A applications-program to MS-Access applications-program.
  2. Migrate departmental LAN, "Rodentia," from NOVELL to Windows NT 4.x
  3. Migrate departmental web server, "Karamelik," from UNIX to Windows NT 4.x
  4. Evaluate on-going services to identify efficiencies

Complete migration of FILMLOG from Q&A applications-program to MS-Access applications-program.
Associated Library Goal:
Implement a library management information system
Primary Contact:

Performance Measure:
  • Complete programming (i.e., tables, reports and standard queries) to allow migration without enhancement or loss of functionality; migrate data.
  • Outline plan for expansion of programming for enhancement.
  • Complete 15% of the enhancements.
Progress:
  • 1997 July 15.   New MS-Access'97 database structure defined; 85% of tables referencing MARC field information mapped.
  • 1997 September 01.   Documentation of existing Q&A application completed.
  • 1997 September 15.   Migration and further work contingent upon LAN migration.
  • 1998 May.   Migration of personal and place names complete, migration of other data proceeding.

Migrate departmental LAN, "Rodentia," from NOVELL to Windows NT 4.x
Associated Library Goal:

Performance Measure:
  • Completion of migration prior to end of fiscal year.
Progress:
  • 1997 July 01. Migration continent upon availablity of Systems staff and scheduling.
    (Systems staff are responsible also for bringing several new Windows NT servers on-line; as long as the Preservation LAN continues to function it has lower priority.)
  • 1997 September 10-12. Preservation LAN crashed and restored long enough to bring backups up to date. Migration planned for the following week.
  • 1998 May. Microsoft IIS upgraded to version 4.0; new PERL and CGI.pm PERL module loaded
  • 1998 June. Beginning to restore PERL programs and develop ASP pages.

  • 1997 July 01. Migration continent upon availablity of Systems staff and scheduling, as well as, Departmental LAN migration.
    HTTP server will be merged with Departmental LAN/file server.

Performance Measure:
  • Unit heads will establish performance measures, test and refine them before the end of the fiscal year.
  • Unit heads will evaluate 35% of services to establish quantitative measures of performance and performance expectations and will begin discussions with appropriate staff to establish qualitative measures.
Progress:
  • See Other Preservation Goals by Unit for additional tracking.
  • 1997 August 01. Unit heads have established performance meansures for all staff; refinement is a continuing goal.
