CONSERVATION: POCKETS
Pockets made out of thick archival paper or cardstock can be used to house thin materials, e.g. maps, indexes, charts, etc., with a corresponding book, or inside a pamphlet binder when the material needs to be shelved on its own and/or is becoming brittle and needs the extra protection. Typically this pocket is glued to the back cover of the book or pamphlet. A Hinged Pocket can be made if gluing to the back cover is unacceptable, such as when a chart or picture is printed on the paste-down of a book. A simpler version of pocket involves just gluing an archival envelope into a book or pamphlet binder.
