CONSERVATION: ORDERING INTERLIBRARY LOANS

If a books or serial is missing pages, an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request can be sent to the ILL office. This is done by visiting the Illiad site with a web browser.

SCOPE

This procedures apply to material in the general collection. Special Collection items need to be evaluated on a case by case basis.

EVALUATION

Considerations when an item missing pages is received:

PROCEDURE

  1. Charge the item to be repaired to the Conservation Repair card
  2. Open a web browser and log on to the UF Illiad system - http://illiad.uflib.ufl.edu/illiad .
  3. Enter the unit circulation card number and password (see Conservation Unit head for this information
  4. Choose "Request a photocopy" or "Request a loan" from the screen
  5. Enter item information on the screen. If ordering photocopies, be sure to give the exact missing pages and include
***REPLACEMENT PAGES NEEDED FOR BINDING; COPY ALL
LISTED PAGES AT ORIGINAL SIZE; DO NOT FAX, STAMP, OR STAPLE***
    in the article title.
  6. Once the item has been submitted, the illiad system will give an ILL number at the top of the screen. Copy this number and include it in the damaged item.
  7. Exit the Illiad system by pressing button in top right corner of screen
  8. Date and place the item on the shelf behind the Senior LTA workbench

Generally, and ILL order takes between 2-3 weeks to fill. However, more time is often required before a willing lender can be found. Interlibrary loan should contact the unit when the material comes in or if there is a problem. After the pages have been copied, original items need to be returned to the ILL office by the due date. The ILL shelf behind the SLTA's workbench should be reviewed at least monthly to be sure no requests have "fallen through the cracks". Any order more than 3 months old should be followed up on.
