PROCESSING ENVIRONMENTAL DATA


These are the procedures that Conservation Staff follow to obtain the information necessary to create the environmental reports

PROCEDURE

COLLECTION OF DATA

  1. Plug HOBO Shuttle into the environmental monitor at the location (see ENVIRONMENTAL REPORTS page for current list of locations).
  2. Press black button on the top of the shuttle. The shuttles lights will indicate the progress of the download procedure.
  3. When the successful light blinks on the shuttle, turn off (press black button) shuttle and unplug it.
  4. Procede to the next location

DOWNLOADING DATA FROM SHUTTLE

  1. Plug in shuttle to Conservator's computer workstation using the gray mini phono cord to the right of the workstation. The shuttle does not need to be on.
  2. Login and open BoxCar Pro 4.0 from the desktop.
  3. Click Logger>Hobo Shuttle Readout from menu bar. BoxCar Pro will offload files from the shuttle.
  4. Screen will ask "Auto Save?". Click No.
  5. A Save As dialog box will pop up with the location of the first data file stored in the shuttle listed in the File name: text area and Logger Datafile in the Save as type: text area. Browse to the folder where the information is to be saved on the workstation (currently it is C:\\Documents and Settings\johfreu\My Documents\My Documents\Environmental)
  6. Click Save
  7. Click Yes to replace the (old) file
  8. In Select Series dialog box, make sure Temp(F) and RH are selected.
  9. Click OK. A window with a graphic representation opens in BoxCar Pro and the next location will pop up in a Save as dialog box. Procede as above until all locations have been saved. LEAVE EACH LOCATION DIALOG BOX OPEN - they will be used to export information in the next step.

EXPORTING AS TEXT FILES

The individual Logger Datafile files must now be exported as text files in order for the Climate Notebook program to use them to create the final report.

  1. With a graph window of one of the monitor locations active in the BoxCar Pro window, click on File>export>custom.
  2. In the Export as dialog box, browse to the folder where the file is to be exported to. File name: can be left unchanged
  3. Choose text file in the Save as type: text field
  4. Click Export
  5. Procede until all locations have been saved

IMPORTING TO CLIMATE NOTEBOOK

  1. Open cnb from desktop
  2. Click on the Import Data button
  3. In Open notebook file for Data Import, navigate to the location you wish to import data into. The notebook for the location loads
  4. Click the "Choose a HOBO Pro Data file to Import" button.
  5. In Choose a HOBO Pro Data file, navigate to the file to import (the notebook corresponding to step 9 above).
  6. Double click on the corresponding file to step 22 above
  7. In Imprt Data Information box, Range of Data to be improted End Date should be the date that data was last downloaded from the location. Click Okay to import
  8. Check that upper left location and lover left file correspond in the cnb window. Click Merge into Notebook, then OK
  9. Click Exit, then Yes to Keep all changes?
  10. Repeat steps till all locations have been imported

PRINTIN A GRAPH

  1. In cnb, choose Conservator View
  2. Choose print>T + RH
