CONSERVATION: COMMERCIAL REBINDING
Some books arriving for repair may be better treated through commercial recasing or rebinding.
SCOPE
These guidelines apply to all types of bound materials and all styles of binding. Items considered rare or unique, should be excluded from these guidelines and routed to the Conservation Unit.
CRITERIA
A book will be considered for Commercial Binding if it:
- is not brittle,
- is over 50 pages,
- has a split block, or extensive case damage.
- is adhesive bound and has loose pages
These items are charged out to the binding circulation card and are placed on the shelves of the bookcase on the west wall of the Conservation area.
