Library Binding Committee Meeting
Minutes
04 April 2001
10:00am
Marston Science Library Conference Room Present:
Victoria Naipavel, Chair; Rod Uecker, Marston Science Library; Michele
Wilbanks-Fox, Music Library; Emily Madden, Judaica; Dee Hawes, Library
West Periodicals; Jan Hernberger, Preservation; John Seay, AFA Library. Statistics
Victoria reported on binding statistics for this fiscal year, through
March, 2001. Only 50% of the binding budget has been spent to
date. Victoria asked about any binding projects that might need to
be done and suggested that all libraries give binding a priority between
now and the end of June. Victoria also reported that statistics are
now available online at http://web.uflib.ufl.edu/preserve/binding/stats/index.htm. OPS
Funding requests for FY2001/02 were asked for and applications given
out. Discontinuation of Buckram Colors
Five buckram colors have been discontinued. As the bindery
depletes its inventory of these colors, they will automatically convert to
the closest color match.
Brown #815 to #860
Tan #775 to #798
Orange #240 to #290
Blue #714 to #588 Title IDs with Errors in LARS
An error in overlapping slot numbers on our binding tickets has been a
problem on some of our past jobs. Victoria urged everyone to use a
higher starting slot for the title group when this happens, as saving a
Title ID with errors will cause errors when closing and sending the job to
the bindery. No jobs can be closed/sent with errors. Victoria
distributed a hand-out outlining the problem, the error screens, and ways
of correcting the error(s).
News from Preservation
Kendra and the Library West periodicals binding will be moving back to
Preservation.
Victoria will be out of the office from May 14-June
4. If you have any problems or questions during this time, please
email Cathy Mook, with a cc to Victoria.
Victoria will be attending ALA from June 14-18. If
you have any problems during this time, please email Victoria.
Respectfully Submitted,
Rod Uecker
