A-Team minutes
Thursday, October 19, 2006
10:00-11:30AM

Bobby Parker and Doug Kiker presiding

Attendance: : Joe Baca, Jean Bostwick, Matthew Daley, Raimonda Margjoni, Amy Osborne, Bobby Parker, Travis Schaben, John Seay, Christy Shorey, Angela Stewart, Paula Tarrant, Michele Wilbanks-Fox, Janet Williams

Matthew Daley began the meeting with a brief explanation of a new Item Process Status (IPS) code. After much deliberation over a list submitted by Emily (Judaica), it was decided to use one simple code: HP. HP stands for “check maintenance shelf” and will more than likely be used mostly by branches, as it is an in-house location. This code gives the patron a better chance of getting the book when they don’t find it on the shelf (or at least understanding where it is if they cannot access it). The code also makes it easier for staff to locate the book so we can direct the patron. Perhaps we can further assist them by calling the owning location. In most cases, Emily will be using this IPS for the Judaica collection and as she is no longer at a service point, staff can call her directly.

The next item on the agenda concerned OCLC local holdings, which Naomi was going to address, but since she had a conflict with another meeting that discussion was shelved for another time. Briefly, there is a project to upload all electronic Serial holdings onto OCLC. A November 12 OCLC workshop by NEFLIN was announced.

Bobby said that Christy Shorey would be taking over binding while Kendra is out for the next 6 weeks. Direct any branch questions to him.

Doug spoke about the upcoming reorganization in the Acquisitions & Licensing section initiated by Michele Crump and Steve Carrico. Over the next 6-12 months, there will be a change in how the Acquisitions department is divided: it will no longer be split into a Serials and a Monographs unit. Instead, there will be an Electronic unit and a Print unit. This consequently changes the A-Team membership.  At the same time, the A-Team charge is being rewritten as the original charge of learning Aleph and the LibWest move has been accomplished.

In the future the Print Media Maintenance Committee (fka A-Team) will consist of co-chairs Bobby Parker and Raimonda Margjoni, binding representatives from the branches as well as those who work with serials and monographs at the branches. Bobby also invited Dee Hawes (Access Services), Serials representatives and liaisons from cataloging and the Electronic Committee. Doug Kiker offered to come and speak on any electronic issues that need may need addressing.

Meanwhile Bobby will work on writing the new PMC charge. He welcomes any ideas, suggestions or other helpful input on what the new charge and responsibilities will be.

The next meeting will be between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
