September Statistics--Filming
71 volumes (mostly the Florida Rancher and Grower) were filmed during the month of September.  The Preservation Department is currently filming monographs, but when they are completed will return to serials.  The Bulletins will be outsourced to a microfilming vendor, Micrographics, Inc.  This will speed up the filming, but will also require a quicker turn-around on materials from the Cataloguing Unit.  Monographs obtained through interlibrary loan were returned to the loaning library, because processed film was finally returned by the vendor.  Due to the problems involved with interlibrary loaning materials (including receiving photocopies which are not of a good enough quality to film, the extraordinarily long amount of time it takes to receive an item requested, etc), we will no longer request items through ILL.  The current number of volumes filmed stands at 1,040.  Preservation staff has completed the microfilm updates on Notis and OCLC for all monographs that have completed the filming-processing-duplication process.  The serials will be sent to Resource Services for updating.  Shipments of materials have been arriving from the National Agriculture Library on a regular basis, and Nelda has been using them to fill in gaps in our own holdings.  (A hearty thanks to the NAL for providing these materials!)

 September Statistics--Cataloguing
Susan is still working on monographs that Jack had begun.  She still has some authority work left to do on them, but since the Preservation Department is in such need of materials to film, she could make surrogates and send the books down.  The authority work could then be done while the materials are being filmed.  Naomi announced that she will be out for three weeks near Thanksgiving, and will have David Cromwell take over reviewing while she is out.

Quarterly Report
Cathy is currently working on the quarterly report.  We will report that all filming will be completed by December 31, 2000, but that processing, duplication and cataloguing of film product will be completed after December 31.  Non-grant monies from the Preservation Department and Resource Services will be used to finish these tasks.  UF has officially returned $15,000.00 of grant money, which will be used by Nebraska to complete their section of the USAIN grant.

Options for Speeding Up
Some filming will be out-sourced, mostly of serials.

Respectfully Submitted,
Victoria Naipavel
