CD-Rom Security Cases
With the growing presence of non-paper media in the collections of academic libraries, the need to provide access to their intellectual contents while still protecting the physical piece itself continues to increase. During Spring 2003, in response to this acknowledged need, the University of Florida is kicking off a new program, which we call the CD Rom Security Case project. This program routes certain CD-Roms in the Humanities and Social Science Library (Library West) and the Marston Science Library to the open stacks in sturdy, lockable, plastic cases, where they will be directly accessible to patrons, while still being protected. Every segment of the Library has been included in over three years of planning for this project, including staff from Access Services, Resource Services, Preservation and Collection Management.
