The Physically Friendly Workplace

Working at your computer for long periods of time without a break can be painful. Often backaches, headaches and wrist injuries are the result of repetitive movements, poor posture while sitting and workstations that are not ergonomically designed. Here are some tips for making your workstation "physically friendly."

  • Take frequent breaks. Remember to stop every 30 minutes or so and stretch. Get up and move around. Take a little walk around your area. Set your computer to help remind you.
  • Position your monitor so that it is 20 to 30 degrees below eye level.
  • Adjust your chair so that your feet rest comfortably on the floor and your knees are at a 90 degree angle.
