PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
"The text of the Encyclopaedia Judaica CD-ROM is distinguished by both its breadth of scope and depth of focus on the Jewish world and civilization. The CD-ROM comprises the complete text of the 16-volume print edition of the Encyclopaedia, the Year Books and the Decennials that followed, and a distinguished selection of updates available only on this CD-ROM. Whether for a Ph.D. dissertation or a Bar/Bat Mitzvah report, the more than 15 million word, 20,000 article text in this CD-ROM provides the perfect source for research on any Jewish related subject. And now, the extensive multimedia elements allow you to explore and learn by listening and watching: hear Jewish music of the 12th century, witness the fate of the Jewish community in Warsaw... The Encyclopaedia Judaica CD-ROM Edition - a dramatically new dimension in Jewish reference, research, and learning." CRITERIA FOR ADDING A RESOURCE TO THE LIBRARY'S TOWERS, JUKEBOX, AND THE SP SERVER
The following criteria are considered when adding a resource to the Library's towers, jukebox, or the SP
server:
(a) The use of the resource, according to defined parameters, is sufficient to warrant its mounting on the Library's towers, jukebox, or the NP server. Parameters include current or anticipated use, including number of users; intensitiy of use; continuity of use; characteristics of users in terms of user category and academic affiliation.
The target user’s group is the Center for Jewish Studies and primarily students and faculty in the departments of Religion and History (including Near Eastern Studies)
(b) The resource is relatively easy to use and requires minimal staff assistance
The index is organized as a browsable pull-down menu and the entries are also keyword searchable.
(c) Access to this resource through the Library's towers, jukebox, or the SP server is more desirable than access to this title, or a related resource, through another delivery mechanism, print or electronic. If duplication of the resource in different formats is desired, then the rationalization is provided.
This product offers
multimedia access which the print version does not.
(c) The infrastructure required to provide access to the resource is available both within the libraries and within academic departments hosting the resource's primary remote users. The networking infrastructure includes equipment, software, and expertise. If the required infrastructure is lacking, the required accommodations are clearly defined. The infrastructure of the resource's primary remote users should be assessed.
It’s a very simple CD-ROM product. Shouldn’t be a problem.
(e) The cost and terms of the multi-user license are compatible with user need, funding capabilities, legal restraints, and the technological environment.
The product is distributed by Davka Corp. They cannot provide a licensing agreement, but the Pro Forma invoice, which I will send to the committee, contains the terms of use: i.e. limited to 10 simultaneous users. The product is being purchased rather than leased.
