General Orientation

All new students are required to attend a General Orientation Session. This session will include basic information that you need to be familiar with pertaining to:

  • UF Campus
  • UF Website
  • General library information
  • General reference
  • Customer service information

Listed below is some of the information covered in these orientation sessions. This section is not a replacement for going to the session, but rather to be used as a quick reference afterwards.

Library Map There is a map available that marks each of the UF Libraries. There are 9 listed on the map. There is also a tenth which is Mead Library. Mead is located at the PK Yonge School.
Special Services for Users with Disabilities

There are Special Services available for users with disabilities. These services are outlined at www.uflib.ufl.edu/ct/disab.html.

Special Equipment including A VERA and Kurzweil reading machines are available at Marston.

You can also increase the text size on any web page by going to

View> Text Size> Increase

They are also able to register at the Circulation Desk at Library West, the Health Science Center, or the Legal Information Center.

Campus Map An online campus map is located at http://campusmap.ufl.edu/. This map can help you look up classroom abreviations and locations. It also provides photos of buildings and panorama shots of a number of UF locations, to assist you in giving directions to patrons.
Reitz Union There are many services offerred here including Gator 1 Card Services, University Box Office, copy, fax, shipping, legal services, a notary, and free printing. The website is www.union.ufl.edu. Click on the "Services" tab at the top to view details on any of these.
Website List This is offerred off the UF main page www.ufl.edu. It is a link on the right side of the page. The direct link is www.ufl.edu/websites/. This includes an alphabetical listing of all main UF websites. If you don't know how to find a UF website, this is a very useful feature. The search box at the top of www.ufl.edu can aslo be used for this purpose.
Quick References This is a quick reference guide that provides web links to a number of useful sources. This covers most areas, ranging from movie guides to supreme court opinions to dictionaries. It is found at www.uflib.ufl.edu/ps/ready_ref.pdf.
Parking Information Parking information including how to get a decal, what lots are open over breaks, and construction information is located at www.parking.ufl.edu/.
CIRCA Labs Their website lists their hours and the software and services they provide along with locations of labs around campus. http://labs.circa.ufl.edu/
RTS This is the Gainesville bus system website www.go-rts.com/routes/index.asp. Here you can find information on route and times they pick up. Paper copies of this information are also usually available at or near the Circulation Desk.
