There are a number of tasks that you are responsible for on a daily basis.
These include:
- Clocking In/Out in both the Sign In book in the Student Office and in my.ufl.edu.
- Writing in the tasks you accomplished during the day in the Daily Acitivities Log located at the back of the Sign In book.
- Taking carts up from the 2nd floor and reshelving the books that are on them.
- Sweeping all floors as needed.
Sweeping includes picking up all the materials from the tables and copy areas on a floor and returning them to the shelves or returning them to the reshelving carts on the 2nd floor.
- Shelving books, periodicals, microforms and state documents.
- Blocking books on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th floors (this means aligning all of the books straight with the edge of the shelf).
- Shelf reading on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors (this means going through each shelf in order to ensure all of the books are in the correct call number order and fixing those that are not. Your goal is to shelf read sections as you shelve them daily. You should also be shelf reading sections that are heavily used to ensure that these areas are kept in order. Please refer to the "Shelf Reading" page for further instructions.
- Leveling- this means taking the books that are on the book shelves next to the elevators and those in the copy areas to their appropriate floors and placing them in the correct reshelving areas.
- Recording barcodes for all items swept on the 1st -5th floors with the portable USB scanners. Any items witout barcodes are to be recorded in a spreadsheet in Google Docs. (Please see the Projects section of this website for more information regarding this).
