3rd Floor Shelving Instructions |
|
Floor Map(See below for detailed instructions)3rd Floor This floor contains only periodicals dating from 1990 to present. Bound volumes have one strip of green tape. The loose issues do not have green tape on them but have the letter 'P' written at the bottom of the call number label.
Oversize periodicals 1990 to present are shelved on the last row in the South East corner of the floor. Their reshelving area is located after Z in the loose issue reshelving area.
Bound and loose issues are shelved together in the stacks, but have separate reshelving areas. The reshelving area for the bound journals is located on the row of shelving outside of the classroom (L308) on the 3rd Floor.
The loose issue reshelving area is located around the corner from the bound journal reshelving area, on the shelves outside the south wall of the classroom. There is also one column of the loose issue reshelving that wraps around the corner toward the bound issues. Neither reshelving area is kept in call number order; however, the materials should be grouped according to call letter. The reason these are kept separately is to ensure the loose issues will not be damaged. Bound volumes can easily damage loose issues if not kept properly separated.
Identifying 3rd Floor Periodicals Bound issues are dated 1990 to present, have Green Tape, and most have call numbers that are printed on the binding (a couple do have printed labels, i.e. QB 1 something). Realize that the tape does come off at some point. It is just as easy to look at the year on the binding and flip through some pages to find the loose issue label for identification.
Loose issues do not have Green Tape. However, you can distinguish these from other loose issues by their Hand Written labels instead of a printed label. They will have the call number written on a white label with rounded corners then a line under it with a P( for periodical). Be sure to distinguish these from 1st floor loose issues (before 1990), 1st floor index, Reference, and Reserve (these issues will have this written where the “P” normally is. PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO USE THE COMPUTER!! If you’re not sure about where a book goes, just look it up in the catalog. If you get a loose or bound issue that is no. 3 vol. 45 2001 and there are no other issues on the shelf, it is most likely that either the book belongs on another floor or it actually belongs to another library, i.e. West, Education, HSC, etc. Also, issues may be mislabeled and need to be properly labeled and checked in. Please give these to the Collection Services office on the 3rd Floor or Christine. Bindery Shipments Every other Wednesday and Thursday, we get newly bound issues. They are placed on carts either by the loose issue reshelving area on the 3rd Floor, or by the atruim on the 3rd floor looking down to the 2nd floor. They are placed here throughout the day so check often. DO NOT place newly bound volumes in the reshelving area. This fills sections so that swept items will not have a place. Keep them on the carts until you are ready to shelve them. New Loose Issues Carts of new loose issues will be placed on a cart by the loose issue reshelving area daily. The collection services office processes one cart per day of loose issues which we or they then sort into the reshelving areas each day. The Record NewspaperWe keep the CURRENT and LAST MONTH of the Record. Please recycle all earlier issues. |
