2nd Floor Shelving Instructions |

Floor Map(See below for detailed instructions)2nd FloorReference Any item with orange tape on the spine is part of the Reference collection. There are two main parts of Reference: 1. Reference Books These books have one orange stripe of tape on their spines. They are shelved within the two ranges of shelving closest to the Circulation desk behind the New Books and Ready Reference Sections. 2. Chemical Indexes and Abstracts These items have one orange and one white stripe of tape on their spines, and they are shelved within the range of shelving directly behind the row of Ready Reference books. Check the end panels for call numbers and titles. New Books This section contains all of the books that the library has recently received. They are shelved in the section of low bookcases that faces the Circulation Desk and entrance to the library. They are housed here for a limited time and then transferred to the 4th and 5th Floors. Reserve Materials These items are kept behind the circulation desk and are checked out to patrons on a short-term (2-hour up to 7 days) basis. They can be identified by tape on the spine that says RESERVE. Reserve loose issues can be identified by the word RESERVE written below the call number on the label. If found unattended, these materials should be returned to the circulation desk immediately because the fines accrue hourly. Microfiche and Microfilm These items are located on the 2nd Floor near the Circulation Desk in gray and tan cabinets. There are a number of different systems of filing these within the collection, so please ask for assistance if needed. Microfilm needing to be reshelved will be located either behind circulation on the cart for the 2nd Floor, or in the microfilm box located next to the microform readers-printers. Microfiche needing to be shelved will be located in the small box on top of the microfiche cabinets. State Documents
The State Documents have call numbers that start with 100-109.
These items are located in the compact shelving on the South wall of the 2nd Floor. The reshelving area is located on a cart which is located right next to the compact shelving. LD 1780s - Theses and Dissertations
These items have the call number LD 1780 followed by another letter and number and the year it was published. Theses/dissertations are shelved in the compact shelving located on the South wall of the 2nd Floor. These items are arranged by year, and then they are in alphabetical order by the author's last name. The reshelving area is located on a the same cart as the State Documents which is located right next to the compact shelving. Oversized Books These are books that are too large to fit on standard size shelving. They are shelved in the last row at the back of the Reference section (along the East Wall) and have LC call numbers A - Z. They are identified with a black and white label that reads "Oversized" either on the bottom of the spine or in the lower left hand corner of the front of book. Their reshelving area is on the Reference cart located in the Reference Section and this reshelving area is not kept in call number order. |
