Pictured below are just a few examples of the modern African maps contained in the Map and Imagery Library's collection. Further images and information will be added in the near future.

	Africa 1998. An example of general maps of Africa drawn to show political boundaries and major cities. This map is from the 8 1/2 X 11 sized series produced by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Call# G 8200 1998 .U5 NB.
	Natural Vegetation in Africa. The library has a wide variety of special topic maps related to the Earth Sciences. Some cover the entire continent, individual countries, or specific features such as river valleys or national parks. Call# G 8201 .D2 1986 .U5 NB.
	Africa Population Density. The map collections include a number of items which are drawn to display social characteristics of humans, i.e. demographics, linguistics, and economics. Call# G8201 .E2 1979 .U5.
	Shaded Relief of Africa This 8 1/2 X 11 sized map was produced for a British Airways magazine. It is an example of generalized relief maps in the Map Library.
	Africa Continent at the Heart of the World. This commercial reproduction of a National Geographic Society map shows the wealth of materials available on Africa in the Map Library's collection of over 3500 atlases.
	Northern Africa and Middle East. An example of a general regional map showing political boundaries and capitols. It is an 8 1/2 X 11 sized map, which was published in 1995 by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Call# G 8820 1995 .U5 NB.
	Central Africa A larger format 1998 U.S. Central Intelligence Agency map which shows political boundaries, populated places, rivers, and lakes.
	Botswana Mean Annual Rainfall. The Map Library has a number of special topic maps for individual countries. This map was published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
	Republique Du Congo Carte Physique. An example of a relief map of an individual country in which the relief is shown by altitude tints. This Institut Geographique National France map is one of the many aquired from foreign agencies by the Map & Imagery Library.
	Niger Almost every country is available in a U.S. Central Intellience Agency map in a larger format (larger than 8 1/2 by 11) with special topic and location maps. On average they measure about 16 X 24 inches. They usually have a shaded relief map of the country with special topics. These topics can include population, economic activity, vegetation, ethnic groups, etc. Call# G 8770 1969 .U5.
