Position Title System Administrator and Automation Librarian

Job Summary: This position works closely with the Systems Department staff and the Electronic Access Services Coordinator to provide technical support for the Libraries' Web presence. Serves as the technical administrator for the Web server, which supports the Libraries' web site. Responsible for maintenance of the Libraries' UNIX-based systems, Domain Name Service server, and MS Exchange email server support. Responsible for Outlook and Office software support. Works with staff at all levels within the Smathers Libraries System; the Satellite Libraries, and the Florida Center for Library Automation; with other University computer units, particularly NERDC and CIRCA.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical server support for Library Web operations. Act as technical coordinator of the Smathers Libraries' Web accounts and operations which includes:
· Management of the Microsoft IIS (web) server
· Setting up web folders, virtual directories, and appropriate permissions for users.
2001-2002 Objectives:
· Manage transition to new Web server running IIS 5.0 under Windows 2000.
· Continue to customize reports and analyses of server statistics, while considering migration of this function to Microsoft Access.
· Improve regular web link checks and reports on entire Library Web site.
· Become more proficient with FrontPage, Netscape Communicator and DreamWeaver web authoring tools to better assist content providers
· Replace form2mail with IIS 5.0-based solution,
· Support transition to web management by a full time webmaster position.
· Act as technical liaison for the NetAgent/RefeXpress function.
· Act as administrator for creation of PURLs on the FCLA PURL server.
- Act as Libraries' System Administrator for UNIX-based servers. System Administration includes, but is not limited to the following:
· Perform software installations and updates as required.
· Perform regular system backups to tape; restore from backups as required.
· Write programs to support efficient system utilization as required.
2001-2002 Objectives:
· Maintain and document local Domain Name Service.
· Contribute to transition to Active Directory and Windows 2000-based DNS.
· Get some training in UNIX programming.
· Become proficient with Regular Expressions.
· Coordinate UNIX upgrade projects with Systems Department.
- Manage Library Networking accounts and MS Exchange email accounts, Library mailing list activities, training, and troubleshooting.
2001-2002 Objectives:
· Continue to develop email documentation accessible via Systems web page.
· Help implement move to Windows2000, which includes Exchange2000.
· Provide technical support and serve as Systems resource for Exchange/Outlook software, especially calendar functions.
· Get some Exchange2000 training.
· Continue progress with developing Outlook98/2000-based forms and applications.
- Perform other duties as required to provide backup support to the UFL Systems Department.
- Participate in the Technical Services Steering Committee; serve on other university of Library Consultative bodies as appropriate.
- Undertake research and/or development projects.
2001-2002 Objectives:
· Continue web-accessible documentation of Libraries' network infrastructure using Visio2000.
· Addition project to be defined in area of new LMS.
- Participate in University service programs and in appropriate professional activies at the campus, state, regional, and national level.
