File Swapping
-
Systems got a notice from Network Services. They had been contacted
by Universal Studios. Someone using the library network had made
a current movie available over the Internet. The culprit was found.
Other movies along with several pieces of software were found on the workstation.
-
Department heads are asked to make sure everyone in their departments understands
the serious nature of copyright infringement via file swapping.
-
It is even possible to get into trouble if you engage in illegal file swapping
at home - this is considered to be "unbecoming of a University employee."
Software from home is ok if you have a license for it which permits use
in work and home environments, and you just put it on one local machine
(no servers).
-
Libraries will be ussuing an appropriate explanation of computer use as
it relates to intellectual property under the University Appropriate Use
Policy.
