Ongoing Systems Updates
Equipment Received/Installed/Repaired
  1. New edict – every purchase that the Libraries need (through August) has to be ordered by tomorrow, March 30. We’ll we will be very busy ordering for the next two days. Will be getting 50 more computers with flat heads. The popcorn stand is an active project.
  2. Encyclopedia Judaica – Emily reported one service not working – Judaica not accessible. Looks like media degradation, which brings up the hot topic: how long do CDs last? This one was a CD/RW copy. What is the media life for optical products? The DLC backs up a lot of their stuff on CD/RW.
Liaisons
  1. Distribution List – all contacts have been notified. 15-16 machines have already been picked up. The mailroom will deliver Judaica’s machines. 3-4 returns have been received. Discussion of available space for incoming computers.

  4. We’re trying to figure out how the wall plate service works – it appears as though we have not been charged yet at ALF or in Docs. They will back-bill. If anyone calls regarding this, please refer them to Bill.
  5. Jet Direct – reset command then prints page – revival of ancient DOS attack. Only way to fix is to turn it off. There may be a download at HP for the fix.
Software Projects Status
  1. Daniel Cromwell – spine label printing through ALEPH – not successful, but it does print in XML. Winston is meeting with them to discuss.
  2. Hilton is finished with Client to DB Script.
  3. PGP with PeopleSoft – encryption – Winston keeps getting passed around; no one can seem to help him. Bill says to check with Mike Conlon.
  4. East Florida Papers Project – Cynthia is looking at how the Web site is configured, will test things. This project is on a grant.
