GATOR LIBRARIES STAFF ASSOCIATION Constitution Article
1: Name
Section 1. The name of the association shall be the Gator Libraries Staff Association. Section 1. To encourage educational development of the libraries staff. Section 2. To provide an informal structure for communication among libraries staff. Section 3. To foster a spirit of cooperation and fellowship among the libraries staff through informational programs and social events. Section 4. To facilitate a greater awareness of the libraries' role within the university community. Section 1. All library employees, full and part-time, shall become members upon employment. All members may vote, serve on committees, and hold office. Section 1. This association shall meet at quarterly intervals (September, December, March and June). Special meetings may be called. The meeting in September shall be designated as the Annual Meeting at which reports of officers shall be given and new officers installed. Section 1. Officers of this association shall consist of: 1) A presidentSection 2. The term of office shall be one year. Section 3. The officers and chairpersons of the standing committees shall constitute the Executive Board. Section 4. Officers shall be elected at the June meeting by majority vote of the members present and shall take office in September. Section 5. At least one candidate for each office shall be submitted by a nominating committee of three appointed by the president in April or May. 1) Nominations from the floor shall be accepted.Section 6. A special election shall be called to fill any vacancy arising in the Executive Board. Section 1. The president shall officiate at all regular and special meetings, and shall be an ex officio member of all committees. The president shall be an Executive Board member the year following. Section 2. The vice-president, president-elect, shall officiate during the absence of the president. Section 3. The secretary/treasurer shall carry on all correspondence of the association and shall keep accurate minutes (to be transmitted electronically) and record all transactions at regular, special, and Board meetings. The secretary/treasurer shall perform all fiscal duties incident to the office. Section 4. The Executive Board shall transact all business of the association between regular meetings. Except in emergencies, matters should be referred to the general membership of the association before the action is taken. Section 1. The standing committees shall be 1) the Program Committee andSpecial committees may be appointed as needed. Section 1. This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of all members present at any regular meeting, provided a note of article to be amended has been submitted to the general membership, in writing, at least two weeks before the general meeting. This constitution will be effective immediately upon ratification by a two-thirds vote of all members present at the organizational meeting. Ratified October 28,
