Collections

The Education Library collection supports 26 academic degree programs in the College of Education, which is organized into departments and programs:

Significant materials in the Education Library include the Children's Book Collection, the K-12 Textbook Collection, the ERIC Documents Microfiche and several other microfiche collections and a video collection.  The collection consists of more than 145,000 monographic volumes, approximately 600 journal subscriptions, both print and electronic, and more than 585,000 microfiche.

Education Library History

The Education Library is located in Norman Hall. A collection of educational methods books was started in 1939 in one room of the P.K. Yonge Laboratory School. These materials formed the nucleus of the collection which became the Education Library in 1950. The present facility opened January 2, 1980.

In 1996, the Education Library was given a significant gift in the Haskel Hess Endowment fund. This fund will help support the library in bringing new technology and materials to the College of Education students in the future.

Haskel Hess Endowment

Libraries rarely have the opportunity to purchase materials and equipment or indulge in projects that aren't bare bones necessities, and the Education Library at UF is no exception. Mrs. Enid Ashe of Miami recently changed that situation, however, by establishing an endowment for the library in her late husband's name.

Haskel Hess held a deep belief and desire to help those in genuine need, and throughout his life offered his wisdom and assistance to others. When Carrie Hunt, Mrs. Ashe's daughter-in-law, explained her dream of having an extra fund to support Education Library materials and services, Mrs. Ashe generously offered to set up an endowment in Mr. Hess' name. The Haskel Hess Education Library Endowment now satisfies some library needs not addressed by public funding and supports library services that will help College of Education students and faculty compete in the 21st century and beyond.
