The U.S. Copyright Act of 1976, as amended, provides protection to authors, creators and publishers of works. The law also grants privileges, such as Fair Use, to users of works for such purposes as comment, teaching, and research. The George A. Smathers Libraries values and respects copyright law, and encourages faculty, staff and students to educate themselves on the rights afforded to them as authors and as users of copyrighted works.
