Computing & Other Technology Services

Technologies Available in All Library Locations
All library workstations use the Microsoft Windows XP operating system and provide the following array of available software and services. Please review the libraries' computer use policy.

  • Internet / Database Access
    Access to the Internet and online library services, including
    the library catalog and databases, is available in all the libraries and branches. Library workstations are equipped with both Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers.
  • Web Email Access
    Access to most web-based email services is available throughout the libraries and branches.
  • Word Processing and Other Production Software
    Microsoft Office 2003 Professional suite as well as other Windows XP production software is available on library workstations.

  • WebCT Classes and Streaming Video
    WebCT courseware and the university's video classes can be viewed on workstations throughout the libraries. Users must provide their own headphones. To aid in viewing or listening to other media, the workstations provide the following viewing and listening utilities and plug-ins.
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader
    • Windows Media Player
    • Quicktime Player
    • Flash Player
    • Shockwave Player
    • LizardTech DjVu viewers
    • Real Player
  • Printing
    Printers are available in all libraries and branches.
    • B & W, 8.5" x 11", laser printers are available at all libraries. A Xerox copy card is required - $0.13 per copy.
    • Color, 11" x 17", laser printers are available in the Map & Imagery Library
      and the Architecture and Fine Arts Library. A Xerox copy card is required - $1.00 per copy.
  • Multi-language Support
    • Library workstations provide multi-language support through the Microsoft Keyboard IME extensions.
  • Accessibility Software
    All library workstations provide a suite of software designed to enhance accessibility. Other adaptive/assistive equipment is available at limited locations.
